About the Program
The summer solstice occurs on June 20th at the moment the earth's tilt toward the Sun is at a maximum. Therefore, on the day of the summer solstice, the Sun appears at its highest elevation with a noontime position that changes very little for several days before and after the summer solstice.
As the Sun reaches peak expression in the northern hemisphere, light overcomes the landscape making it the longest day of the year. Here in NC, daylight hours will reach to 14:35.
For ancient people who lived close to the Earth and seasons, the Sun’s power and life-giving ability was central to their understanding of the natural and spiritual world. Throughout history, the Sun has been a powerful and universal symbol. Its presence in various cultures and belief systems showcase its enduring significance as a symbol of time, renewal, love and divinity.
Let's come together to honor this solar…
